Middlefield Original Cheese Co-Op

16942 Kinsman Rd, Middlefield, OH 44062

We are a family-owned coop located about 30 miles east of Cleveland. The co-op was started back in 1956. There are 90 Co-op members, 98% of whom are Amish. Most of our milk comes in 10-gallon cans. All our cheese is natural, made from milk from cows that are not treated with BST hormone.  We are a USDA approved plant. Our cheese is made by the traditional method in vats. Making each vat individually ensures a quality product for our customers.

We make Mild Cheddar, Monterrey Jack, Marble, Pepper Jack, Farmer’s, Brick, and our famous Marble Pepper jack.  Our newest products consist of Colby, Co- Jack, and pepper Jack Longhorn. Our cheese is shipped from Wisconsin to New Jersey and from Canada to Florida.

Visit our retail store and help yourself to free cheese samples. Watch cheese being made through the big windows and ask for a tour.

Rothenbühler Cheese Chalet

15815 Nauvoo Rd. Middlefield, OH 44062

Our founder Hans Rothenbuhler grew up in Switzerland, the son of a Master Cheesemaker. Orphaned at age six, he was lovingly raised by a caretaker known as Sister Anna who taught him the importance of faith while he trained to carry on the family’s cheese making tradition. On July 4, 1956, our founder Hans Rothenbuhler made the first 250-pound wheel of cheese for his new American community in Middlefield, Ohio.  This was the fulfillment of a dream begun in his native Switzerland where Hans studied cheese making. Hans and wife Ann worked as a team, with Hans leading the manufacturing plant and Ann running the retail store, together growing the business to become one of the largest Swiss cheese manufacturers in the United States. John Rothenbuhler, the son of Hans and Ann, along with a third generation of aspiring cheese makers, now leads Rothenbuhler® Cheesemakers with the same passion and commitment to quality as Hans, deeply committed to the family tradition of making only the very best cheese…guided by a pledge to perfection and a vision to bring nutritional goodness to your family.
